Where to Eat After the Campuhan Ridge Walk: An Ubud Morning Guide

The Campuhan Ridge Walk is the one thing almost every visitor to Ubud does. It’s free, it takes about an hour, and it’s genuinely lovely — a narrow spine of paved path running between two river valleys, tall grass on both sides, hills opening up ahead of you.

It also has one design flaw. It makes you very hungry, and it finishes at an hour when much of Ubud is still asleep.

First, Time the Walk Properly

Start before 7:30AM

The ridge has almost no shade. By nine the sun is direct and the path becomes considerably less pleasant. Regular walkers start between 6:30 and 7:30. Sunrise over the valley is the reward for the early alarm.

Allow 60–90 minutes

The paved trail runs about 2 km each way, with a climb at the start before it flattens out. Most people turn back at the end of the paved section; some carry on into the village and rice fields beyond, which adds half an hour and is worth it if you have the energy.

Don’t eat first

The walk is far more comfortable on an empty stomach, and it earns you a better meal afterwards. Bring water.

The Breakfast Problem Nobody Warns You About

You finish the ridge at around 8 or 8:30AM — warm, sun-touched, and extremely hungry. And much of Ubud’s dining scene doesn’t properly wake up until nine or ten.

The cafés immediately around the trailhead are limited and, at that hour, either closed or filled with everyone else who just walked the same path. Walking back into central Ubud takes time you may not want to spend in the sun.

So the practical move is to decide where you’re going before you set out.

Getting From the Ridge to Central Ubud

The trailhead sits north-west of Ubud Palace, near the Gunung Lebah temple and the Campuhan bridge. The good breakfast is south and east of that.

  • On foot to Ubud Palace: roughly [masih dicek dulu — Google Maps] minutes. (Pasar Seni Ubud)
  • On foot to Jl. Jatayu: roughly [masih dicek dulu minutes. Doable, but hot after a walk.
  • By scooter or Grab: [masih dicek dulu] minutes, and it costs very little.

If you’re tired, take the ride. You’ve earned it, and you’ll enjoy breakfast more.

Where to Eat: Flock Bali, Jl. Jatayu

Flock opens at 7AM — earlier than a great many places in Ubud — which is the single most useful fact in this article. When you come off the ridge at half past eight, the kitchen has already been running for ninety minutes.

It sits a short ride south of the Palace, slightly outside the busiest tourist corridor. In practice that means you’re not queuing behind the same crowd that just finished the walk with you.

What to order after a walk

What to order after a walk
  • Big Breakfast Platter (IDR 105,000) — sourdough, eggs your way, avocado, roasted tomato, sautéed spinach, and mushroom. This is what a two-hour walk is for.
  • Eggs Benny (IDR 80,000) — English muffin, poached egg, hollandaise, pickled ginger, and roasted tomato. Restorative.
  • Avo Toast (IDR 80,000) — loaded avocado and sun-dried tomato on sourdough, if you want something lighter. Vegan.
  • Acai Berry Bowl (IDR 75,000) — cold and fruit-forward, and exactly right when you’re still warm from the sun.
  • Fresh Orange Squeezed (IDR 65,000) — hand-squeezed tangerine from Kintamani. Better than anything from a bottle after a hot walk.
  • House-brewed kombucha (IDR 40,000) — Pineapple Ginger is the one for a morning like this.

And the coffee. Two house blends — Kemade for something bright and floral, Karasu for something rich and chocolatey — plus a rotating single-origin filter. After a 6:30AM start, you’ll want them to take it seriously. They do.

One thing to know: the breakfast menu runs 7AM to 12PM, so the timing works perfectly for a post-ridge breakfast. Arrive after noon and you’re on the lunch menu instead.

A Simple Ubud Morning Plan

  • 6:15AM — Leave your accommodation.
  • 6:45AM — Start the Campuhan Ridge Walk. Sunrise, cool air, an empty path.
  • 8:15AM — Finish. Take a Grab south towards Jl. Jatayu.
  • 8:30AM — Breakfast at Flock. Big plate, good coffee, no rush.
  • 10:00AM — Ubud Palace and the art market, before the midday heat arrives.

Practical Notes

• The ridge path is open 24 hours and free to enter.

There’s almost no shade — a hat and sunscreen matter more than good shoes.

The path gets slippery after rain. Take the first climb slowly.

Flock is open daily 7AM–10PM, with free off-street parking and indoor and outdoor seating.
